ISRenergy contributed to elia Viewpoint Storage
11/26/2025
ISRenergy – with Marie-Louise Arlt, Tobias Backmann, Julian Emmert, and Kate Tong – contributed to elia’s Viewpoint Study on storage, together with our collaborator Paula Heess from FIM Research Center for Information Management. In our contribution, we study redispatch within distribution grids - using real-world data - and how storage may reinforce or alleviate current congestion. We find that storage dispatched based on wholesale market prices tends to be more grid-friendly than storage based on maximizing self-consumption. However, during 2 to 5% of hours in 2024 and first half of 2025, it still reinforced redispatch within distribution grids. This is a lost opportunity for improving renewable energy integration and reducing redispatch costs and distribution grid investment.
